Maryhill
Maryhill is an area in the north of Glasgow, situated approximately 2.5 miles from the city centre along the valley of the River Kelvin. The Forth and Clyde Canal passes through the district, and Maryhill Locks, a flight of five canal locks, is a notable historical feature of the canal's restoration. The area developed significantly during the Industrial Revolution with the growth of manufacturing industries, particularly ironworks and chemical works. Today Maryhill is primarily a residential district that has undergone regeneration, including restoration of the canal corridor and redevelopment of former industrial sites.
