Alderney

Alderney

Alderney, Channel Islands

Alderney is a small island and the third largest of the Channel Islands, a British Crown dependency in the English Channel approximately eight miles off the coast of Normandy, France. The island covers approximately 3 square miles and has a population of around 2,000 people, making it the most northerly and one of the most isolated of the Channel Islands. Alderney retains a number of Victorian forts and German Second World War fortifications reflecting its strategic position in the Channel and its occupation between 1940 and 1945. The island has its own parliament, the States of Alderney, and a small airport with regular services to Guernsey and Southampton.
