Woolwich

Woolwich, London, England

Woolwich is a district in the Royal Borough of Greenwich in south-east London, situated on the south bank of the River Thames approximately nine miles east of central London. The area has an extensive military and industrial history, centred on the Royal Arsenal, established in the 17th century as one of Britain's principal armaments manufacturing complexes and now partly converted to residential, cultural, and commercial use. The Woolwich Ferry has provided a free crossing of the Thames to North Woolwich since 1889, supplemented more recently by the Woolwich foot tunnel and Crossrail station. Elizabeth line services opened at Woolwich in 2022.
