Market Square

The Market Place in Wells is the historic central square of the city, situated between the High Street and Sadler Street at the heart of the city centre. The square has functioned as a market space since medieval times and is surrounded by historic buildings including inns, shops, and civic premises. A regular market takes place in the square and it serves as the focus of civic life in England's smallest city. The Market Place is adjacent to the Bishop's Eye gateway leading through to the Cathedral Close and the Bishop's Palace.
