Senate House

Senate House, London, England

Senate House is the central administrative building and library of the University of London, located on Malet Street in Bloomsbury, in the London Borough of Camden. The building was designed by Charles Holden in an Art Deco Modernist style and was completed in 1937, rising to approximately 64 metres and remaining one of the taller buildings in central London for many decades. It houses the Senate House Library, one of the most important academic libraries in the United Kingdom. The building's monumental style is said to have influenced George Orwell's depiction of the Ministry of Truth in Nineteen Eighty-Four.
