Coalhouse Fort
Coalhouse Fort is a Victorian artillery fortification located at East Tilbury on the north bank of the River Thames in Essex, near the village of Linford. It was built between 1861 and 1874 as part of the Thames estuary defences and is one of the best-preserved examples of a Haxo casemate fort in the United Kingdom. The fort continued in active military use into the Second World War and is now managed as a heritage attraction and event venue. It sits on the marshes overlooking the Thames, with views across the estuary to Gravesend in Kent.
