North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England

North Shields is a town in the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, situated on the north bank of the River Tyne at its mouth. It is linked to South Shields on the opposite bank by the Shields Ferry, one of the oldest ferry services in England. The town has a long history as a fishing and trading port, and the Fish Quay remains an active working area supplying seafood to regional markets. North Shields is served by the Tyne and Wear Metro and lies approximately eight miles east of Newcastle upon Tyne.
