The village lies in a broad valley with the Long Mynd and Stiperstones hills nearby, and is surrounded by farming land and former lead-mining country. It has a parish church dedicated to St George and serves as a local centre for surrounding rural communities. The area is noted for its scenic landscape within the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
