Parliament Square is a large road junction and public garden in the City of Westminster in central London, at the intersection of Bridge Street, Parliament Street, and Great George Street. It is flanked on its eastern and northern sides by the Palace of Westminster and Westminster Abbey, forming one of the most symbolically important public spaces in the United Kingdom. The square contains statues of notable British and international statesmen, including Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, and Mahatma Gandhi. The square was redesigned in the mid-20th century and is often a focal point for political demonstrations.
