Halifax

Halifax, Yorkshire, England

Halifax is a large market town and the administrative centre of the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale in West Yorkshire, England, situated in a steep-sided valley of the Pennine hills. The town was a major centre of the wool textile trade during the Industrial Revolution and retains significant industrial heritage, including the Piece Hall, a unique 18th-century cloth hall built around a colonnaded courtyard. The surrounding moorland landscape, including Hardcastle Crags and the Calder Valley, is characteristic of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Halifax is served by a railway station on the Calder Valley Line.
