Cardington Airship Hangars

Cardington Airship Hangars, Cardington, Bedfordshire, England

The Cardington Airship Sheds are two enormous steel-framed hangars located at the former Royal Airship Works at Cardington, near Bedford in Bedfordshire, England. Built in the 1910s and expanded in the 1920s, they were constructed to house British airships including the ill-fated R101, which crashed in France in 1930 on its maiden long-distance flight. The sheds are among the largest structures in the United Kingdom, each standing approximately 55 metres high and nearly 250 metres long. The site is now a Grade II listed structure and has been used as a film production facility.
