Cahir Castle is a large and well-preserved medieval castle situated on a rocky island in the River Suir in the town of Cahir, County Tipperary. It was built in the 13th century by the Butler family and remained one of the most formidable fortresses in Ireland throughout the medieval and early modern period. The castle comprises an outer, middle, and inner ward with towers, a great hall, and a substantial keep, all of which have been extensively restored. It is managed by the Office of Public Works and is one of the most visited heritage sites in Munster.
