Limerick is a county in the midwest of Ireland in the province of Munster, bisected by the River Shannon which forms much of its northern boundary. Limerick city, the county town and third largest city in Ireland, sits at the lowest fording point of the Shannon and has been a significant settlement since Viking times. The county's landscape ranges from the fertile Golden Vale to the south to the uplands of the Slieve Felim and Ballyhoura mountains. It is bordered by Clare, Tipperary, Cork, and Kerry.
