Leitrim

Leitrim, Republic of Ireland

Leitrim is a small, largely rural county in the northwest of Ireland with the shortest coastline of any coastal county, just a few kilometres of Atlantic shoreline near Tullaghan. The county is divided into two distinct parts by Lough Allen, the uppermost of the Shannon lakes, with upland drumlin and lakescape to the north and a more open pastoral landscape to the south. The Shannon River rises in County Cavan and flows through the county southward. Carrick-on-Shannon is the county town and a popular inland waterways destination.
