The West Somerset Railway
The West Somerset Railway is a heritage steam railway running for approximately 20 miles through Somerset, from Bishops Lydeard near Taunton to Minehead on the Bristol Channel coast, making it the longest standard gauge heritage railway in England. The line passes through the scenic landscape of the Quantock Hills and Somerset coast, calling at a number of restored Victorian stations including Watchet, Dunster, and Blue Anchor. The railway was originally part of the Great Western Railway network and closed to British Rail services in 1971 before being preserved by volunteers.
