Osborne House
Osborne House is a former royal residence located near East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. It was built between 1845 and 1851 as a private retreat for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who designed the Italianate house with the architect Thomas Cubitt. The house retains much of its original Victorian furnishing and decoration and provides an intimate picture of royal domestic life in the 19th century. Queen Victoria died at Osborne in 1901 and the house is now managed by English Heritage and open to the public.
