Hartland Abbey

Hartland Abbey

Hartland Abbey, Devon, England

Hartland Abbey is a country house built on the site of a 12th-century Augustinian monastery, located near Hartland in north Devon, close to the Atlantic coast. The house was founded as an abbey in 1157 and was given to a courtier of Henry VIII following the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The current house dates largely from the 18th and 19th centuries and features Gothic and Regency interiors. It remains a family home and is open to the public during summer months, set within gardens and woodland walks leading to a private beach.
