Formby Beach

Formby Beach, Southport, Merseyside, England

Formby Beach is a stretch of coastline in the Merseyside district of Sefton, located approximately twelve miles north of Liverpool and five miles south of Southport. The beach is characterised by its wide sandy shore, backed by an extensive system of sand dunes and managed pine woods owned by the National Trust. The area is notable for its population of red squirrels, one of the few remaining colonies in England, and for the ancient human and animal footprints that are periodically revealed in the inter-tidal clay layers. Formby Beach is a popular destination for day visitors from Merseyside.
