Dawlish Warren

Dawlish Warren is a sand spit extending across the mouth of the Exe Estuary on the south Devon coast, located immediately north of the town of Dawlish. The warren is a National Nature Reserve protecting a rare dune system that supports a wide variety of plant and animal life, including rare orchids and a large number of migratory and overwintering birds on the adjacent estuary. The area is also a popular holiday destination, with a beach, funfair, and caravan parks at the tip of the spit. The Exeter to Newton Abbot railway line runs along the sea wall immediately adjacent to the warren.
